Élaine Turmel is a resource teacher by training, with emphasis of children confronted with learning and social difficulties. Her work with them in youth centres, as well as close co-operation with parents, learning specialists and the community, pushed her to obtain a second bachelor's degree, in psychology, and a master's in neuro-education. At the same time, she worked in research laboratories with adults having anxiety troubles (Hôpital Sacré- Coeur de Montréal), personality troubles and psychoses (Institut Philippe Pinel, Douglas Hospital), as well as with children having an attention deficit disorder (NeuroFeedback - Neuropsychology project). Finally, she teaches psychology at the Cegep level (Gérald Godin) to future child-care educators.
Her favoured approach is to understand her client's issues on the basis of the "here and now". It is through the therapeutic relationship that a client relives past issues that hinder his/her ability to be him/herself, to be authentic. A number of simple techniques are used during one-hour meetings to assist the client in reaching a clearer and more fluid state of consciousness. This therapeutic approach aims at establishing an adequate connection between the mental, the emotions and the body in view of achieving improved functionality during the present moment, thus obtaining a greater feeling of satisfaction relative to the client's objective: happiness!
Specialisation: anxiety troubles, personality troubles, psychosomatisation, personal growth.
